EJ Multi-Sports Leagues (EJMSL)
Fair Usage Policy
Last updated: 20 October 2026
1. Our Aim
At EJ Multi-Sports Leagues (EJMSL), we want everyone to enjoy playing sport, meeting new people and competing in a friendly, fair and flexible environment.
Our leagues rely on participants communicating with one another, arranging matches and treating their opponents with respect. This Fair Usage Policy sets out the standards we expect from everyone who takes part in our leagues and tournaments.
By participating in EJMSL activities, you agree to follow this policy alongside our Terms and Conditions and any sport-specific rules.
2. Communication and Responsiveness
Participants are expected to make reasonable efforts to communicate with their opponents throughout the season.
We ask all players to:
-
Respond to match requests and messages within a reasonable timeframe, ideally within 48 hours.
-
Make reasonable efforts to arrange matches before the relevant deadline.
-
Communicate clearly and politely if they are unavailable or need to rearrange a match.
-
Avoid repeatedly ignoring messages or leaving opponents uncertain about whether a match will take place.
-
Notify EJMSL if they are experiencing difficulties contacting an opponent or arranging fixtures.
We understand that everyone has work, family and other commitments. Occasional delays are understandable; repeated failure to communicate without reasonable explanation may be treated as a failure to participate fairly.
3. Arranging and Completing Matches
Participants are responsible for making reasonable efforts to complete their fixtures within the published league schedule.
Players should:
-
Contact opponents early enough to allow sufficient time to arrange a match.
-
Offer reasonable dates, times and locations where applicable.
-
Be flexible and considerate of their opponent's availability.
-
Attend matches they have agreed to play, or provide as much notice as possible if they need to cancel.
-
Follow the published rules for match deadlines, postponements, walkovers and incomplete fixtures.
Where a participant repeatedly fails to arrange or complete matches, EJMSL may review the circumstances and take appropriate action under the relevant league rules.
A participant will not automatically be penalised simply because a match could not be arranged. We will consider the circumstances, including the efforts made by both players.
4. Match Results and Fair Play
All participants must act honestly and fairly when reporting results.
Participants must:
-
Submit accurate scores and results through the designated method.
-
Raise any scoring errors or disagreements promptly.
-
Never deliberately submit false results or misrepresent what happened during a match.
-
Respect the competition format, rules and decisions made in accordance with those rules.
-
Avoid manipulating fixtures or results to gain an unfair advantage.
Where a result is disputed, EJMSL may request information from the players involved before deciding how the matter should be resolved.
5. Respectful Behaviour
EJMSL welcomes adults of all abilities and aims to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable participating.
All participants must:
-
Treat opponents, organisers, venue staff and other players with courtesy and respect.
-
Accept wins and losses in a sporting manner.
-
Avoid abusive, threatening, discriminatory or intimidating behaviour.
-
Respect other people's time, availability, ability and personal boundaries.
-
Follow venue rules and reasonable safety instructions.
-
Refrain from cheating, harassment, deliberate disruption or other conduct that undermines the enjoyment of the league.
Disagreements can happen, but they must be handled respectfully.
6. Active Participation
When entering an EJMSL league, participants are expected to make a genuine effort to take part throughout the season.
If your circumstances change and you can no longer participate, please let EJMSL know as soon as possible.
We recognise that injuries, illness, work commitments and unexpected personal circumstances can affect participation. We will consider these situations reasonably.
However, repeatedly entering leagues without making a reasonable effort to play may affect other participants and the overall quality of the competition.
7. Reporting Problems
If an opponent is repeatedly unresponsive, cancels agreed matches without reasonable notice, behaves inappropriately or makes it difficult for you to participate, please contact EJMSL.
When reporting an issue, please provide relevant details, including dates, messages or any other information that may help us understand what happened.
We encourage participants to raise concerns early rather than waiting until the end of the season.
EJMSL will review reports as fairly and objectively as reasonably possible. We may contact the participants involved to clarify the situation before deciding on any action.
8. Fair and Proportionate Action
Where a participant repeatedly fails to follow this policy, EJMSL may take action appropriate to the circumstances.
Depending on the seriousness and frequency of the issue, this may include:
-
An informal reminder or friendly warning.
-
A formal warning about future participation.
-
A decision regarding an incomplete or disputed fixture, where permitted by the relevant competition rules.
-
Temporary suspension from a league or tournament.
-
Removal from a league or refusal of future entries in appropriate circumstances.
Serious misconduct, including threats, harassment, deliberate cheating or behaviour that creates a safety concern, may warrant more immediate action.
Where reasonably practicable, participants will be given an opportunity to explain their circumstances before a decision is made. Any action will be considered in light of the available information, the relevant rules and applicable law.
9. Fairness and Individual Circumstances
EJMSL understands that not every situation is straightforward.
We will take reasonable account of circumstances such as illness, injury, caring responsibilities, unexpected work commitments, venue problems and genuine difficulties contacting opponents.
Our intention is not to penalise players for circumstances outside their control. It is to ensure that everyone makes a reasonable effort to participate and that no player is consistently disadvantaged by another participant's lack of communication or cooperation.
10. Relationship with Our Terms and Conditions
This Fair Usage Policy should be read alongside the EJMSL Terms and Conditions and any additional rules published for a particular sport, league or tournament.
Where a specific competition has different arrangements or deadlines, those published rules will apply to the relevant competition matter, subject to applicable law.
EJMSL may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will be published on our website.
